Our research staff comprises the principal investigator and coordinator of the Citclops European project, a citizens’ observatory for coast and ocean monitoring, and several other EU projects, software engineers and researchers, and experts in the field of the Internet of Things.

Leadership team

Elena Jurado

Elena is a researcher and project manager. She obtained a BSc degree in Industrial Engineering, an MSc degree in Technology, Innovation and Education, and completed her PhD in Environmental Modelling at CSIC-UPC. Her main research interests combine environmental modelling, the application of artificial intelligence to environmental sciences, big data, citizen science, and education.

Raul Bardají

Raul is a development engineer at 1000001 Labs. He is also a researcher in new technology at the Physical and Technological Oceanography department at CSIC-ICM. The focus of his research is the development and validation of DIY scientific instruments. He was involved in the FP7 EU Citclops project, which developed new DIY technologies based on Arduino to estimate water transparency.

Judit Rodríguez

Judit graduated in Environmental Sciences (University of Barcelona), and holds a Master’s Degree in Energy Engineering (UPC) and a Master’s Degree in Climate Change (University of Copenhagen). Judit worked as a teaching assistant in an online course at the University of Copenhagen and as an assistant at the Energy Systems Analysis Group at the Technical University of Denmark. She lived in Stockholm (Sweden), where she worked in management support to wind power projects at ENGIE, an energy company.

Marc Pous

Marc is the Internet of Things advocate of 1000001 Labs. He is also the founder of thethings.iO startup. Marc has been involved in research centres, leading the technical activities in the areas of the Internet of Things and Smart Cities. Marc holds a degree in computer engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (Barcelona). Marc is the organiser of the Internet of Things Barcelona Meetup community.

Fabrizio Latrofa

Fabrizio is an architect and holds a postgraduate specialization in sustainable architecture from the University of Bologna (Italy). He specialised in coordinating heterogeneous projects focused on sustainability and urban innovation. He is an expert in smart cities (with a specialisation in resilient-cities planning and waste management). He has developed several projects in collaboration with international organisations and public authorities. Between 2012 and 2015, he served as the scientific coordinator of a project for sustainable development and smart-city innovation for the Municipality of Ravenna (Ravenna Common Ground). Expert in collaborative design, Fabrizio is co-founder of the Fab Lab Bologna (project winner of the first prize of the national competition for innovation – Incredibol! 2013) and founder (2012) of Artifici Largà – an Italian non-profit organisation focused on urban innovation and sustainable design.

Maria Gabot

Maria graduated in Nursing from the University of Barcelona in June 2012. She has worked in different hospitals and clinics in the Barcelona area and has knowledge of the Catalonia government’s e-CAP healthcare tool and Oesía’s Gacela Care clinical nursing station. She is now working on healthcare projects in Norway.
